Bastián Valencia Ull

B. Eng in Computer Science | Software Engineer | Cybersecurity Enthusiast

Hey! My name is Bastián Valencia Ull, a pregrad student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chile. I also work part-time at Tecnoback as a Software Developer.

I've got a profound interest in computers in general, but mainly in the Cybersecurity and Software Engineering fields, having some explorations into Machine Learning aswell.

I enjoy writing programs in low level languages such as Rust, C and C++. Besides that, I really like Object Oriented Programming, specifically in Scala.

I am fascinated by trying different tools, libraries and frameworks in the projects I work on, with the objective of building safe, scalable and efficient software.

I am also passionate about learning new things in a constantly evolving world.

Apart from this nerdy stuff, I love animals (dogs specially), music and movies. I love going to the theatre and playing guitar (I play guitar in a local alternative rock band!!).

KiwiAyuda

  • Website developed for an animal rescue organization
  • Programmed the entire platform from scratch using the Laravel framework and a PostgreSQL database
  • Implemented a custom admin panel with different utilities
  • Hosted and deployed the application using Microsoft Azure and an Nginx web server

  • Zero-Trust JWT orchestrator microservice
  • Features persistent token verification, automatic revocation, and periodic cryptographic key rotation
  • Implements concurrent programming utilizing Redis
  • Tools: Scala, PekkoHTTP, Tapir, Redis, Docker, JWT

MachineID

  • Library to obtain a computer's unique identification
  • Completely modular and customizable
  • Uses, among other things, the processor's core count, hard drive serial number, and MAC address
  • Tools: Rust, Windows API, Linux Kernel

PScan

  • Program to scan open ports on a server using the SYN Scanning strategy
  • Supports range scans (e.g., ports 1 to 443) and Decoy, a spoofing option based on its Nmap namesake
  • Written using the Producer-Consumer Pattern
  • Tools: Rust, clap, pnet, Raw Sockets, OS Threads

Spectral Type Classification

  • Machine Learning project for the Interdisciplinary Module course (CD2201) at FCFM.
  • Compares different multi-class classification tools (Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, KNN, and Neural Networks) using a highly imbalanced dataset (star catalog from the HIPPARCOS mission)
  • Tools: Python, Tensorflow, scikit-learn, Numpy, Pandas.
